Guido Deboeck started his career as a health
economist in the World Health Organization, worked on monitoring and evaluation
of rural development projects around the world, and eventually became an
advisor and manager of investment technology at the World Bank. He published several articles and books including Visual
Explorations in Finance: using self-organizing maps (1998); and Trading
on the Edge: Neural, Genetic and Fuzzy Systems for Chaotic Financial Markets (1994).
His formal education included a Ph.D and M.A. in economics from Clark
University, MA, and a
License-Doctorandus degree in economics from the Catholic
University in Leuven
(KUL, Belgium).
His interest in genetic genealogy dates back to 2005 when he launched the
Flanders-Flemish DNA project. Based on it he
recently published Flemish DNA &
Ancestry: History of three families over five centuries using conventional and
genetic genealogy (2007). Beside genealogy his interests include
investing, wine tasting, beer brewing, cooking, and photography. He is also the Editor of the investment section on Bella On-line, the women’s voice on
the Internet (www.bellaonline.com/investing).
